Can I use my spare dsl modem to hook up my nintendo wii to the internet?
I have dsl internet service and one desktop computer wired to a modem which is plugged into a phone jack. I recently purchased a nintendo wii and would like to hook it up to another phone jack using a Wii Lan adaptor and plugging it into a spare modem which is just like the one wired to my computer. My question is, will this work and allow me to use each at the same time?
No if you connect 2 DSL modems to the same phone line, neither one will be able to sync or connect, even if one is turned off. And your ISP likely only allows one PPPoE login, so even if you could connect them at the same time, only one would have internet.
Typically if the modem only has one ethernet port, you would use a broadband router or wireless router to connect multiple devices.
My DSL modem is a combination unit that acts as a router with 4 ethernet ports and wireless.
